Care of Your Knee After Surgery
Surgery
After your surgery you will have a pressure bandage on your knee. The morning after your surgery you will be seen by the physiotherapist who will mobilise you and ensure you are safe to be discharged. Prior to discharge your nurse will remove the pressure dressing and change it to a tubigrip compression stocking. The waterproof dressings underneath this are to be left intact until your 2-week post-operative visit with Mr Richardson.

Surgery
After your surgery you will have a crepe bandage on your knee. When the bandage is removed you will see only small puncture marks made by the surgical instruments. There are no sutures to be removed. The wounds have been closed with steristrips which should be left intact until they fall off, or are removed at the post-operative visit.

Mr Richardson will expect you to remain in hospital until you are comfortable, medically stable, mobilising safely and independent in self care. Typically you will be ready for discharge 1 -2 days after your surgery. If you are at all worried about going home around this time, then please discuss it with Mr Richardson or the nursing staff looking after you. Inpatient rehabilitation is available for you if you live alone, or require additional time to regain your independence.
